Vegetation mapping: Cape Byron State Recreation Area & Arakwal National Park

The NSW National Parks & Wildlife Service engaged Wildsite to undertake a vegetation survey, classification and mapping program of Cape Byron State Conservation Area and Arakwal National Park. The study aimed to survey and map all native vegetation, identify vegetation and flora of conservation significance, and also identify any threatening processes.

The mapping involved aerial photographic interpretation, extensive ground truthing, targeted sampling of 62 survey full floristic plots, and final classification using the PATN hierarchical clustering program.
